Adhere to relevant laws and regulations (e.g.\, reporting laws\, HIPAA) that affect health coaching\nNBHWC Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct\n\nEvent Description:  \nLegal literacy is not optional-it’s essential. In this in-depth session\, we will examine how the NBHWC’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct align with federal and state laws that shape health and wellness coaching practice. After a brief overview of the U.S. legal framework\, the discussion will move into critical areas such as contracts\, scope of practice boundaries\, negligence\, privacy and data security\, consumer protection\, copyright\, and discrimination. \nAttendees Will Learn:  \n\nIdentify federal and state laws that reflect the NBHWC’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct\nDiscuss the major requirements of these laws and the potential litigation that can result with noncompliance.\nDescribe risk management strategies that can be developed and implemented to help minimize litigation. \n\nSpeaker Bio: \nJoAnn M. Eickhoff-Shemek\, PhD\, FACSM\, FAWHP \nProfessor Emeritus\, University of South Florida\, Exercise Science \nPresident/Founder\, Fitness Law Academy\, LLC \nDr. Eickhoff-Shemek is an internationally recognized researcher\, author\, and speaker in fitness and wellness law. She is the lead author of two textbooks\, Legal Toolkit for Health & Wellness Coaches and Managers and Law for Fitness Managers and Exercise Professionals\, published in 2025 and 2020\, respectively\, and the author/co-author of more than 100 journal articles.
