    James Fricton, DDS, MS

    Dr. James Fricton is a pain specialist and clinical research scientist whose clinical and research interests have focused on relieving and preventing chronic pain and opioid use for two decades. He is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Minnesota, Senior Researcher at HealthPartners Institute, a Board-Certified Pain Specialist at the Minnesota Head and Neck Pain Clinic, and a former President of the International Myopain Society and the American Academy of Orofacial Pain. He was trained in Medical Anesthesiology and Pain Management at UCLA School of Medicine and has 40 years of experience in patient care, University teaching, and National Institutes of Health-sponsored research on relieving and preventing chronic pain with the use of health information technology in patient care. With over 150 publications and books and grants including his most recent NIH-sponsored research on preventing chronic pain and addiction, he is well known for innovative patient-centered solutions to healthcare. He has initiated a Campaign to Prevent Chronic Pain and Addiction with the International Myopain Society by implementing patient-centered Transformative Care by integrating self-care training with treatment using technology and telehealth coaching as part of routine care for all pain conditions.
